2 Months of OK1000!

It's been 2 months since I started this odd little blog, and I'm pretty surprised that so many of you have found it and have been looking through the site, reading about Pentax stuff and following the links. But the stats don't lie.

The idea that there could be a blog focused on Pentax is pretty obscure, I'll admit, but I thought it couldn't hurt. It's not hard to notice that there are a lot of young Pentax users, like me, who have to read through Canon and Nikon proselytizing when they search out additional information. I wanted to do something that I wish was around for me to read. Normally, I'm shy about doing anything like this. I'm totally not used to writing about gear, and I don't have a photography background (I work in publishing and have a Fine Arts/English education--I wasn't even familiar with Pentax history until recently; like you, I thought the word Pentax meant "sexy babes and piles of money" in Japanese. Luckily, it does.) And maybe you've noticed that I've made it a point not to mingle art criticism with this site, because there's no surer way to prove one's idiocy, but I may get inclined sooner or later, and I hope you'll stick it out. But bit by bit, I'm also hoping that I'm adding Pentax specific views that inspire new Pentax users to make the most of their equipment, old or new, right alongside me as I figure these things out. Without looking too much like a supreme dork.

A lot of new visitors find this site by Googling about something related to Pentax, and then see that there's a repository that's being made here for Pentax specific interests. I hope you've checked out the 'Featured Topics' to see what's been added so far. In the last 8 weeks, I've been able to write about the Pentax Flickr community, how to do IR photography with your DSLR, and even how to make the most of your DSLR's battery life. And plenty more. The news since May has been really upbeat: a new Shake Reduction capable camera, new DA Limited lenses, and more new cameras possibly as soon as this fall.

Over the summer, I hope to get to subjects like the PUG, a retrospective of some of Pentax's best lenses, LBA, and the anniversary of the K1000, the namesake of this site. I'm no pro photographer, but since I upgraded my faithful K1000 in January to an *ist DS, I've been feeling inquisitive into figuring out what photography means to me and learning about taking advantage of the current technology. I hope you'll stick around while I blabber on each week, because I'm looking forward to the next 2 months.

Resources and information you provide is very valuable, and I hope this place also to be a meeting place for all Pentax users. I also hope to contribute to your work with my comments in the future. Great job!
