Pentax DA* lenses are about to go on sale in Japan

It seems Pentax Japan is getting ready to unleash the lenses. According to a press release, the SMC Pentax DA* 50-135mm F2.8 will go on sale in Japan on July 27, 2007. With a production output of only 1,000 per month. The SMC Pentax DA* 16-50mm F2.8 will follow two weeks later on August 11, 2007. Again, production is just 1,000 per month. Hopefully, there'll be some left for the rest of the planet. (via

That is great news. Thanks for sharing. The last 6 months have been frustrating trying to buy an autofocus telephoto zoom with a constant f2.8 in a pentax mount.

God I wish I could afford these lenses.

What, are these things hand-crafted by Buddhist monks in the mountains of Japan? I can't believe Pentax continues to under-produce lenses, given that lens availability is usually the reason quoted by many people as not wanting to go with a Pentax system...

And yeah, I want them badly!
